A Message from Yoga Loft Teacher, Alysha Pfeiffer
Greetings,
I don’t know about you but I have found myself several times in the last few weeks needing to do something to help myself calm down. For me there are a few go-to’s that I rely on anytime I feel myself getting super stressed.
Here they are:
yoga asanas (postures)
walking my dog out in nature
pranayama (breathing exercises)
adding calming essential oils to a hot bath
What are some ways that you calm yourself down when you notice that things are out of balance?
Peace,
Alysha
Hi Alysha! I love your go-to’s, except walking the dog in nature is no longer an option for me since I lost my furry friends a couple of years ago. I find a great way to pacify stress is abhyanga (Self massage with oil which is infused with herbs). And also taking a look at what I am feeding my body and senses and determining if it is calming me down or causing me to feel more anxious or agitated. I was having some sleep issues the last couple of weeks and eating a lighter supper in the evening and skipping the wine and/or coffee has really helped. Also, I considerably decreased listening to the news and try to spend time with people and in places that are uplifting and positive. I find my meditation practice is a great prophylactic for stress but it can be difficult to do once the distractions and disturbances take hold. Mantra meditation is really good since it gives the mind something else to concentrate on. I am looking forward to hearing some other ideas.
